About me, about us, maybe even about you

I met a guy, I fell in love, I waited…and I waited…and I waited some more for him to get back from overseas. I joined him by driving from Virginia to Colorado and then onto San Diego where we picked up where we had left off in VA, ended up finding out we were pregnant and boom. I suddenly find myself married, and adulting, and being responsible. Who would have thought?! My main ambition in life, since I was about 12, was to buy an older bus at auction, gut it, remodel it, travel to Oregon and live my life as a nomad doing hospice work and working with addiction counseling. One of these days i’ll have my bus and it will be glorious.

In this blog, I write about various day to day shenanigans, married life, raising a son I never thought I wanted but now can’t imagine living life without, cooking, crafting, sleeping…oh glorious sleep. I also write about domestic abuse, PTSD, coming to terms with a mental illness inflicted upon you by someone you thought loved you, and how I personally am walking this path to recovery. I also sing the praises of my kick ass husband who without, I’d be very sad and much wine would be consumed.

I am a lover of books, music, crafts, friends, family time, and the occasional thrift store shopping binge because nothing says self control like spending $50 on someone elses junk that you swear you’ll breath new life into but never really get around to it so it joins all the other ‘great finds’ in the closet never to see the light of day. eh hem. Moving along…

I encourage others to join in on topic discussion when needed about mental health issues, coping mechanisms, which for me is coloring or knitting, and how we all live day to day with the knowledge our lives were changed in ways that touched every single part of it without us really even knowing it. PTSD is nothing to be ashamed of, nothing to hide from, and everything to embrace and help yourself heal in the process.

I hope my words, when I do talk about mental health, reach at least one person and help that person.

Be prepared for multiple references to vintage cast iron and my odd obsession with it. I can’t pass it up when I find it in a junk heap or at the thrift stores…rust be damned, I have a scrub brush, a bucket and some lye…bring it you fools!
